Possible Causes

Moisture inside motor housing, Water leak into wiring compartment, Damaged power cord insulation, Internal motor insulation breakdown

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping GFCI. Turn off the breaker and unplug the disposal if possible.

  • Inspect for leaks: Check above and around the Project Source disposal for any water leaks from the sink flange, dishwasher inlet, or plumbing joints.
  • Dry-out period: If a minor splash occurred, allow the unit to dry for 24 hours with power disconnected, then test again.
  • Check cord: Replace a damaged power cord immediately.

If the GFCI continues to trip with no external moisture or cord damage, the disposal has internal leakage to ground and should be replaced.
