Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the circuit breaker feeding the Project Source disposal before opening any electrical covers.
- Check reset button: Locate the red reset button on the bottom of the disposal. Press it firmly until it clicks. Restore power and test.
- Check breaker and GFCI: Verify the kitchen circuit breaker is not tripped. Reset any GFCI outlet that may feed the disposal.
- Test the wall switch: With power OFF, remove the switch cover and inspect for loose wires. If comfortable and qualified, test the switch with a continuity tester or multimeter; replace if defective.
- Inspect disposal wiring compartment: Remove the small metal cover plate on the bottom/side of the Project Source unit where the electrical cable enters. Check wire nuts and strain relief. Tighten any loose connections and ensure no burned insulation is present.
If power is present at the disposal leads but the unit remains dead, the internal motor or control is failed and the disposal should be replaced.
