Project Source
Discharge Elbow / Gasket Leak
Garbage disposal leaks from the side discharge connection to the drain pipe
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose discharge elbow clamp, Cracked plastic discharge elbow, Missing or damaged rubber discharge gasket, Misaligned drain pipe putting stress on elbow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and avoid running water until the leak is corrected.
- Inspect discharge elbow: Locate the side outlet where the Project Source disposal connects to the drain trap. Check for cracks and ensure the metal clamp or screws are tight.
- Reseat gasket: If the elbow can be removed, loosen the clamp or screws, pull the elbow off, and inspect the rubber gasket between the disposal outlet and elbow. Replace if deformed or brittle.
- Align piping: Reinstall the elbow, ensuring the drain piping is aligned without forcing the elbow sideways. Tighten the clamp or screws evenly.
- Test for leaks: Run water and observe the joint. Tighten slightly more if any seepage remains.
