Possible Causes
Metal utensil dropped into disposal, Small screws or hardware in chamber, Broken glass pieces, Loose mounting hardware contacting turntable
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the switch and disconnect power. Never reach into the disposal while it is energized.
- Inspect chamber: Shine a flashlight into the Project Source disposal. Look for metal, glass, or other hard objects.
- Remove debris: Use long-nose pliers or tongs to carefully remove foreign objects. Do not use your fingers.
- Check impellers: Gently move the impellers on the turntable with a wooden spoon to ensure they pivot freely and are not bent into the shredder ring.
- Verify mounting: From below, confirm the disposal is firmly locked into the mounting ring and not sagging, which can cause internal contact.
- Test operation: Restore power, run cold water, and briefly turn the unit on. If harsh grinding persists with no debris present, the internal shredder ring or turntable may be damaged and the unit should be replaced.
