Possible Causes
Trapped food residue under splash guard, Grease film on chamber walls, Bacteria growth in drain line, Rarely used disposal allowing stagnation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the disposal and keep hands clear of the chamber while cleaning.
- Clean splash guard: Lift or remove the rubber splash guard and scrub both sides with a brush and dish soap. This is a common odor source.
- Clean chamber: Pour a mixture of baking soda and vinegar into the disposal, let it foam for 10–15 minutes, then flush with hot water.
- Deodorize with ice and citrus: Grind a tray of ice cubes with a few small citrus peels (lemon or orange) while running cold water.
- Flush drain: Run hot water for several minutes to clear residue from the drain line.
