Possible Causes
Tripped internal overload protector, faulty wall switch, blown fuse in fused spur, loose mains connection in Rangemaster junction box
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the consumer unit (breaker) and confirm the disposal is de-energised before touching any wiring.
- Check the fused spur or socket: Ensure the fused connection unit feeding the Rangemaster disposal is switched on and the fuse (typically 13A in the UK) is intact. Replace the fuse if blown and test again.
- Reset the overload: Locate the red or black reset button on the bottom or side of the Rangemaster unit. Press firmly until it clicks. Restore power and test with a small run of cold water.
- Inspect the wall switch: With power off, remove the switch faceplate and check for loose or burnt terminals. Tighten screws and reassemble. If the switch feels loose or intermittent, replace it.
- Check the junction box: Many Rangemaster disposals are hard-wired via a small junction box. Remove the cover (power off) and verify that live, neutral, and earth connections are tight and not heat-damaged.
- If still dead: Do not continue to energise repeatedly. The internal control or motor windings may be open-circuit and require professional diagnosis or replacement of the unit.
