Possible Causes
Overheating due to extended run time, jammed or overloaded grinding chamber, failing thermal overload protector, restricted motor ventilation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off power at the wall or breaker before inspecting the unit.
- Allow cooling time: If the unit stopped during heavy use, leave it off for 15–20 minutes to allow the internal overload to cool.
- Clear jams: Use the hex key on the base to rotate the impeller plate and ensure it moves freely. Remove any foreign objects from the chamber with pliers.
- Press the reset: Locate the reset button on the bottom of the Rangemaster disposal and press until it clicks. Restore power and test with a light load and plenty of cold water.
- Reduce load: Avoid grinding fibrous materials (celery, corn husks), large bones, or large quantities of starchy foods that can strain the motor.
- Persistent tripping: If the overload trips frequently under normal use, the motor windings may be weakening or the overload device may be faulty. Replacement of the motor or entire unit is usually required.
