Possible Causes

Deteriorated sink flange gasket, loose mounting ring, insufficient plumber's putty or sealant, corroded stainless sink flange on Rangemaster unit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and unplug or isolate the disposal. Place a towel and bucket under the sink to catch water.

  • Check mounting ring tightness: Inspect the three mounting lugs on the Rangemaster mounting assembly. Use a screwdriver or spanner to tighten the mounting ring evenly. Do not overtighten to the point of deforming the sink.
  • Test for leaks: Run water into the sink without operating the disposal. If water still seeps from the top, the flange seal must be renewed.
  • Remove the disposal: Support the unit from below, rotate the mounting ring anticlockwise to release the disposal from the sink flange, and set it aside.
  • Reseal the flange: From above, remove the sink flange. Clean old putty or gasket material from the sink opening. Apply a fresh bead of plumber's putty or fit a new rubber flange gasket (as specified by Rangemaster). Reinsert the flange and reassemble the mounting hardware.
  • Reinstall and test: Rehang the disposal on the mounting ring, tighten evenly, then run water to confirm the leak is resolved before restoring power.
