Possible Causes
Cracked grinding chamber housing, failed internal shaft seal, corrosion in lower housing, loose drain outlet gasket on Rangemaster body
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and avoid using the disposal until the leak source is identified. Water near electrics is hazardous.
- Identify leak point: Dry the exterior of the unit. Run water into the sink (without operating the disposal) and observe with a torch where water emerges: from the side seam, bottom, or outlet connection.
- Check outlet gasket: If the leak is at the discharge elbow, tighten the clamp or screws and replace the rubber outlet gasket if perished.
- Internal leaks: If water seeps from the body seam or bottom, the internal chamber or shaft seal has failed. These components are not serviceable on most Rangemaster disposals.
- Do not attempt to open sealed housing: Opening the motor/chamber housing can expose live components and void safety approvals. The safe remedy is replacement of the disposal.
