Possible Causes
Weak thermal overload device, failing start/run capacitor (on capacitor-start Rangemaster models), internal control PCB fault, partial motor winding failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate power before removing any covers.
- Check for mechanical load: Ensure the grinding plate spins freely using the hex key. Remove any obstructions.
- Observe behaviour: Restore power and run with water. If the unit consistently stops after a few seconds with no jam, the issue is likely electrical.
- Capacitor inspection (if accessible): Some Rangemaster models have an external start/run capacitor in a small housing on the side. With power off, remove the cover and inspect for bulging or leakage. Replace with an identical rated capacitor if defective.
- Persistent cut-out: If replacing the capacitor does not help or if your model has an integrated control PCB, the internal protection is likely tripping due to motor issues. Replacement of the disposal is usually more economical than PCB/motor repair.
