Possible Causes
Oversensitive or failing thermal overload, restricted cooling due to dust and grease, partially shorted motor windings, overvoltage or undervoltage supply
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before cleaning or inspection.
- Clean exterior: Wipe dust and grease from the motor housing and ensure ventilation slots (if present) are not blocked.
- Reduce load: Avoid continuous operation for more than a minute at a time. Feed waste gradually with plenty of cold water.
- Check for binding: Confirm the impeller plate spins freely with the hex key. Any drag increases current draw and heat.
- Monitor operation: If the reset trips even with minimal use and free rotation, the overload or motor is failing. Replacement of the disposal is usually required, as overload devices are integrated.
