Possible Causes
Dishwasher inlet knockout plug still in place, blocked dishwasher inlet spigot, kinked dishwasher drain hose, backflow from disposal into dishwasher hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the disposal and unplug the dishwasher before working on hoses.
- Check knockout plug: If the dishwasher is newly installed, remove the hose from the disposal's dishwasher inlet. Insert a screwdriver into the inlet and tap with a hammer to knock out the internal plastic plug. Retrieve the plug from the grinding chamber.
- Clear spigot: Inspect the inlet spigot for food debris or scale. Clean thoroughly.
- Inspect hose: Ensure the dishwasher drain hose is not kinked or crushed and that it rises in a high loop before connecting to the disposal to prevent backflow.
- Test drain: Reconnect the hose securely with a clamp, then run a dishwasher drain cycle and observe for proper flow.
