Possible Causes
Jammed impeller plate, failing start capacitor, weak motor windings, internal overload cutting power quickly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly attempt to start the unit. Turn off power at the breaker.
- Free the impeller: Use the base hex socket to rotate the impeller plate. Remove any obstructions from the chamber with pliers.
- Reset overload: Press the reset button on the bottom of the unit.
- Capacitor replacement: If the plate spins freely but the unit still only buzzes briefly, replace the start capacitor if your Rangemaster model has one.
- Replace if unresolved: If a new capacitor does not fix the issue, the motor windings or overload device are likely faulty. Replace the disposal.
