Possible Causes
Minor leak from sink flange or plumbing onto motor housing, condensation on cold water pipes dripping onto unit, deteriorated insulation on power cord, hairline crack in disposal housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Leave the RCD/GFCI tripped and disconnect the disposal. Do not reset until the cause is identified.
- Inspect for moisture: Use a torch to look for water trails, rust, or dampness on and around the Rangemaster unit. Fix any plumbing leaks at the sink, flange, or traps.
- Dry the area: Thoroughly dry the cabinet and exterior of the disposal. Allow 24–48 hours of drying time with the unit unplugged.
- Check cord and plug: Inspect for damage or signs of water ingress. Replace the cord set if compromised.
- Retest: After drying and repairs, plug into a GFCI/RCD outlet and test. If nuisance tripping continues, internal insulation may be compromised and the disposal should be replaced.
