Possible Causes
Tripped kitchen circuit breaker, Loose or burned line wire connection in disposal junction box, Open internal thermal overload protector, Defective power cord or wall switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the circuit breaker feeding the disposal and verify power is off using a non-contact voltage tester at the switch or under-sink outlet.
- Check the breaker: Go to your electrical panel and reset the breaker for the disposal circuit. If it trips again immediately, stop and call an electrician or technician.
- Verify the wall switch or air switch: Ensure the switch is fully ON. For an air switch, press firmly and listen for the click at the control box.
- Inspect the power connection: If your Reginox disposal is hard-wired, remove the small junction box cover on the bottom/side of the unit (with power OFF). Check that the line (live), neutral, and ground wires are tight and not burned. Re-secure with wire nuts if loose.
- Check the power cord (plug-in models): Unplug the unit and inspect the cord for cuts or burns. Test the outlet with another appliance to confirm it has power.
- Thermal protector reset: Some Reginox models have an internal thermal protector that auto-resets when cooled. If the unit was recently overloaded, allow 20–30 minutes to cool, then restore power and test again.
- If still dead: If power is present at the junction box or cord but the unit remains completely inactive, the internal thermal protector or main winding is likely open. Replacement of the motor/disposal assembly is usually required.
