Possible Causes
Foreign object jammed between grinding plate and shredder ring, Seized motor shaft, Bent impeller plate, Excessive food load compacted in grinding chamber
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the wall switch and switch off the circuit breaker. Never put your hand into the disposal while it is connected to power.
- Use the supplied hex wrench: Many Reginox disposals have a hex (Allen) socket in the center of the motor shaft on the bottom of the unit. Insert the Reginox service wrench or a matching Allen key and rotate back and forth firmly to free the jam.
- Clear the chamber from above: With power still OFF, use tongs or pliers from the sink opening to remove any visible foreign objects (bones, cutlery, glass, stones).
- Flush with water: Run cold water into the sink to help clear loosened debris. Do not restore power yet.
- Test rotation: After freeing the jam with the wrench, rotate the shaft a full 360° several times to ensure it spins freely.
- Restore power and test: Turn the breaker and switch back on, run cold water, and briefly switch the disposal on. If humming persists or the unit trips again, the motor may be damaged and the complete disposal assembly may need replacement.
