Possible Causes
Metal utensil dropped into chamber, Small screws or hardware in grinding ring, Broken glass fragments, Loose mounting hardware contacting impeller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the wall switch and circuit breaker. Never reach into the disposal with your hand.
- Visual inspection: Shine a flashlight into the sink opening. Look for foreign objects resting on the grinding plate or caught in the shredder ring.
- Remove objects with tools: Use long-nose pliers, tongs, or a magnetic pickup tool to remove metal items. For glass, use pliers and avoid touching shards.
- Check impeller movement: With power still OFF, use a wooden spoon handle to gently push the impeller lugs. They should move freely.
- Inspect mounting ring: From under the sink, verify the Reginox mounting ring and support flange are tight and not sagging into the grinding chamber.
- Restore power and test: Run cold water and briefly operate the unit. If abnormal noise persists, the grinding plate or shredder ring may be damaged and require replacement of the grinding assembly or entire disposal.
