Possible Causes
Failed internal shaft seal between grinding chamber and motor, Cracked grinding chamber housing, Corroded internal components from prolonged leakage, Loose internal fasteners
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and unplug the unit if applicable. Place a bucket or tray under the disposal to catch water.
- Confirm leak source: Dry the exterior of the unit, then run water in the sink without operating the disposal. Observe whether water emerges from the bottom center of the housing.
- Check external connections: Ensure the sink flange, discharge elbow, and dishwasher inlet are not the actual sources of the leak. Wipe above areas and look for tracks of water.
- Internal leak diagnosis: If water clearly drips from the motor housing seam or bottom, the internal seals or chamber are compromised. These are not user-serviceable on Reginox disposals.
- Remove and replace: Disconnect the power, discharge pipe, and mounting assembly. Remove the disposal and install a new Reginox unit following the installation manual, ensuring all seals are correctly fitted.
- Do not operate with internal leak: Continued use can cause electrical shorts and corrosion, posing a safety risk.
