Garbage disposal runs but emits a strong burning smell and may produce light smoke from the bottom vents, internal LED flashes twelve times and then locks out.

Safety first: Immediately turn off the wall switch and breaker. Do not continue to operate a smoking disposal.

• Ventilate the area: Open windows and allow fumes to dissipate. Do not inhale smoke directly.
• Inspect for obstructions: After cooling, check the grinding chamber for foreign objects that may be rubbing on the rotor or impeller.
• Check air vents: Ensure the bottom and side ventilation slots on the Reginox housing are not blocked by insulation, cleaning supplies, or debris.
• Do not reset repeatedly: If the unit has locked out with E12, repeated resets can cause further damage or fire risk.
• Replace the unit: A burning smell and smoke typically indicate permanent motor damage. Replace the complete disposal rather than attempting internal motor repair.
