Possible Causes
Broken internal drive coupling between motor and grinding plate, Stripped rotor shaft, Severe jam causing mechanical failure, Manufacturing defect in coupling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker.
- Check shaft rotation: Use the bottom hex socket to rotate the shaft. If the shaft turns but the impeller plate inside the chamber does not move, the internal coupling is broken.
- Listen for free-spinning motor: When briefly powered (with water and no load), a free-spinning motor with no grinding noise supports a coupling failure.
- Non-serviceable part: Internal couplings are not typically replaceable on Reginox disposals.
- Replace unit: Remove and replace the entire disposal to restore proper operation.
