Possible Causes
Moisture inside motor housing, Damaged insulation on power cord, Water leak onto junction box, Internal winding-to-ground fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping GFCI. Turn off the breaker and unplug the unit.
- Inspect for leaks: Look for water around the sink flange, dishwasher inlet, and discharge elbow that could be dripping onto electrical parts.
- Dry thoroughly: Correct any leaks and allow the unit and surrounding area to dry completely before retesting.
- Check cord and plug: Replace any power cord that shows cuts, cracks, or burn marks.
- Test again: Plug into a known-good GFCI and test. If it still trips immediately, an internal ground fault is likely and the disposal should be replaced.
