E02
Teka Thermal Overload Tripped

Garbage disposal will not run, but power is present at the outlet or terminal. Some Teka models flash E02 on the under-sink control box or the reset button has popped out.

Possible Causes

Motor overheated due to jammed grinding plate, Extended continuous operation, Blocked ventilation around motor housing, Failing motor windings drawing excessive current

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch OFF the breaker and ensure the disposal cannot start unexpectedly. Never reset repeatedly without checking for jams.

  • Step 1 – Allow cooling: If the unit stopped during heavy use, leave it OFF for at least 10–15 minutes to cool the motor.
  • Step 2 – Clear any jam: Use the supplied Teka hex service key (or a 6 mm Allen key) in the bottom center socket of the motor shaft. Turn it back and forth to free the grinding plate. Remove any visible foreign objects from the chamber using tongs or pliers.
  • Step 3 – Press the reset button: Locate the red or black reset button on the bottom or side of the Teka disposal. Firmly press it until it clicks. If your model has a control box with E02, the code should clear after reset.
  • Step 4 – Test operation: Restore power at the breaker, run cold water, then briefly switch the disposal ON. If it trips again quickly, stop and investigate for persistent jams or a failing motor.
  • Step 5 – Call a technician if overload trips repeatedly: Repeated tripping indicates worn bearings, a partially shorted motor, or severe obstruction that may require disassembly.
