Possible Causes
Foreign object stuck between grinding plate and chamber (cutlery, bone, glass), Jammed impellers, Bent grinding plate, Seized lower bearing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the wall/air switch and isolate power at the breaker. Never put your hand into the disposal chamber.
- Step 1 – Inspect the chamber: Shine a torch into the sink opening. Look for metal objects, stones, bones, or fibrous material wrapped around the impellers.
- Step 2 – Manually free the plate: Insert the Teka service hex key into the hex socket at the bottom of the motor. Rotate it clockwise and counter‑clockwise until it moves freely through a full revolution.
- Step 3 – Remove debris: Use long‑nose pliers or tongs to pull out any foreign objects from the grinding chamber. Do not use your fingers.
- Step 4 – Reset overload: Press the reset button on the bottom of the unit if it has tripped (see E02).
- Step 5 – Test with water: Turn on a strong flow of cold water, then briefly switch the disposal ON. If it still only hums or jams again, the grinding plate or bearings may be damaged and the unit may need to be replaced.
