Possible Causes

Water leak into motor housing, Damaged insulation on internal wiring, Cracked grinding chamber or sink flange seal, Faulty earth (ground) connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Immediately switch OFF the breaker and do not attempt to run the disposal. Risk of electric shock is present.

  • Step 1 – Inspect for leaks: Check around the top sink flange, side connections, and bottom of the disposal for dripping water. Dry the exterior and look for fresh moisture.
  • Step 2 – Check plumbing seals: Tighten the mounting ring at the sink flange, and inspect the rubber sink gasket and discharge connection gasket. Replace any cracked or flattened seals.
  • Step 3 – Examine the housing: If water is seeping from the motor housing or lower seams, the internal chamber may be cracked or the shaft seal has failed.
  • Step 4 – Do not bypass safety: Do not attempt to defeat the ground fault or moisture sensor. The unit must remain out of service until the fault is corrected.
  • Step 5 – Replace unit if necessary: Internal leaks into the motor compartment are not economically repairable. Replace the complete Teka disposal and ensure proper earthing and sealing during installation.
