Possible Causes
Cutlery or metal cap dropped into chamber, Small stones or glass fragments, Loose mounting hardware contacting grinding plate, Broken internal component
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the disposal and isolate power at the breaker. Never reach into the chamber with your hand.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Shine a flashlight into the sink opening and look for foreign objects resting on the grinding plate or stuck at the sides.
- Step 2 – Remove objects: Use long‑nose pliers, tongs, or a magnetic pickup tool to remove any visible items. Rotate the plate slightly with a wooden spoon to expose hidden objects.
- Step 3 – Check for loose parts: Gently push the impellers; they should pivot but not be loose or broken. If an impeller or plate is cracked, the unit should be replaced.
- Step 4 – Test with water: Restore power, run cold water, and briefly operate the disposal. If abnormal noise persists, discontinue use and arrange for replacement.
