Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the wall switch and disconnect power at the breaker or unplug the unit. Never reach into the chamber with power connected.
- Step 1 – Manually free the jam: Insert the supplied Tweeny jam-buster wrench or a 6 mm Allen key into the hex socket at the bottom of the motor shaft (if provided). Rotate back and forth until the shaft moves freely.
- Step 2 – Remove foreign objects: Use tongs or pliers (not your fingers) from the sink opening to remove bones, metal, glass, or other hard items lodged between the lugs and grinding ring.
- Step 3 – Reset overload: Locate the red or black reset button on the bottom of the Tweeny unit. Press firmly until it clicks. Wait 2–3 minutes for the motor to cool if it was hot.
- Step 4 – Test operation: Restore power, run cold water, and briefly switch the unit ON. If it still hums and trips, the start capacitor or motor windings may be faulty.
- Step 5 – Inspect start capacitor: On capacitor-start Tweeny models, remove the lower cover (power OFF) and visually inspect the motor start capacitor for bulging or leakage. Replace if defective.
If the shaft cannot be freed or the unit repeatedly shows E02, the motor assembly may be seized and the disposal should be replaced.
