Possible Causes
Extended continuous run time, Overloading with fibrous food waste, Restricted cooling airflow around motor housing, Failing thermal overload protector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the switch and disconnect power before touching the unit.
- Step 1 – Allow cooling: Leave the Tweeny disposal OFF for at least 15–30 minutes to allow the internal thermal overload to reset.
- Step 2 – Press reset: After cooling, press the reset button on the bottom of the unit until it clicks.
- Step 3 – Reduce load: When restarting, run a strong flow of cold water and feed only small amounts of food waste gradually. Avoid fibrous items like celery, corn husks, and onion skins.
- Step 4 – Check ventilation: Ensure the cabinet under the sink is not packed tightly around the disposal. Provide airflow around the motor housing.
- Step 5 – Inspect overload protector: If E03 occurs frequently with light loads, the thermal overload protector or motor windings may be failing. This typically requires replacement of the motor assembly or entire unit.
Persistent overheating is a sign of internal motor damage; consider replacing the disposal if it is older or heavily used.
