Possible Causes

Clogged discharge outlet on Tweeny housing, Blocked sink trap (P-trap), Obstructed connection to dishwasher inlet, Improperly installed discharge elbow or gasket

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn OFF and unplug the disposal before disassembling any plumbing. Have a bucket and towels ready.

  • Step 1 – Run water and test: Confirm that the disposal grinds normally but water drains slowly or not at all.
  • Step 2 – Remove discharge elbow: Place a bucket under the discharge outlet. Loosen the discharge clamp or screws and remove the Tweeny discharge elbow. Clear any packed food debris.
  • Step 3 – Clean P-trap: Remove the sink P-trap and horizontal drain arm. Flush out sludge and food buildup. Reassemble with new gaskets if worn.
  • Step 4 – Check dishwasher inlet: If connected to a dishwasher, inspect the hose and inlet nipple on the disposal for blockages. Clear as needed.
  • Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Reinstall the discharge elbow with its rubber gasket, tighten clamps, restore power, and test with plenty of water.

If the sink still does not drain, the blockage may be further in the household plumbing and a plumber may be required.
