Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power and do not operate a leaking disposal near electrical connections.
- Step 1 – Identify leak source: Dry the unit and run water without operating the motor. Observe whether water drips from the bottom center, side seams, or mounting area.
- Step 2 – Tighten bottom cover: If water appears around the bottom cover plate, gently tighten the screws evenly. Do not overtighten plastic housings.
- Step 3 – Check for housing cracks: Inspect the Tweeny grinding chamber and lower housing with a flashlight. Cracks or corrosion indicate the unit is beyond simple repair.
- Step 4 – Evaluate shaft seal: If water drips from the motor shaft area, the internal shaft seal has failed. This is not user-serviceable on most Tweeny models.
Internal leaks usually require replacement of the entire disposal. Continuing to use a leaking unit risks electrical shock and cabinet damage.
