Possible Causes
Loose impeller lugs, Bent grinding plate, Foreign object rattling inside chamber, Worn motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF and disconnect power before inspecting the chamber.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Shine a flashlight into the sink opening. Look for screws, glass, or metal pieces. Remove with pliers or tongs.
- Step 2 – Check impeller lugs: Using a wooden spoon handle, gently move each swivel lug on the grinding plate. They should pivot freely but not be detached.
- Step 3 – Listen for bearing noise: Briefly run the unit with water. A high-pitched whine or grinding from the motor area suggests bearing failure.
- Step 4 – Check mounting: Verify the Tweeny mounting ring and sink flange are tight. A loose mount can amplify noise.
If noise persists after clearing debris and tightening mounts, internal mechanical damage is likely and the disposal should be replaced.
