Garbage disposal makes loud metal-on-metal grinding or rattling noises during operation

Safety First: Turn OFF the switch and disconnect power. Never reach into the disposal with your hand.

• Step 1 – Visual inspection: Shine a flashlight into the sink opening and look for foreign objects.
• Step 2 – Remove objects: Use long-nose pliers, tongs, or a magnetic pickup tool to remove metal or glass pieces.
• Step 3 – Check impeller lugs: Gently move each lug with a wooden tool to ensure they pivot freely and are not broken.
• Step 4 – Test briefly: Restore power, run water, and test for a few seconds. If noise persists, internal damage may have occurred.
