Garbage disposal causes a loud bang or clunk when starting or stopping.

Possible Causes
Loose mounting ring, Worn rubber mounting gasket, Misaligned discharge piping stressing unit, Internal rotor play from bearing wear
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before adjusting the mounting assembly.
- Step 1 – Check mounting ring: Under the sink, inspect the mounting ring or 3-bolt assembly. Tighten evenly to remove play between the disposal and sink flange.
- Step 2 – Inspect rubber gasket: If the rubber mounting gasket is compressed or deteriorated, replace it with a compatible Waste King gasket.
- Step 3 – Align piping: Ensure the discharge elbow and drain pipes are not forcing the disposal to one side. Adjust as needed.
- Step 4 – Test operation: Restore power and test. If the bang persists and seems internal, bearing wear may be present.
- Step 5 – Replace if internal play: Internal rotor play is not repairable; replace the disposal.
