Worn Grinding Components / Dull Lugs
Garbage disposal runs but does not grind food effectively; food remains in chamber or exits in large chunks.

Possible Causes
Worn grinding ring teeth, Rounded swivel impeller lugs, Corrosion on grinding surfaces, Low-powered model overloaded with hard waste
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before inspecting the grinding chamber.
- Step 1 – Inspect grinding ring: Shine a flashlight into the disposal. Look at the grinding ring around the chamber. If the teeth appear smooth or heavily corroded, grinding efficiency will be reduced.
- Step 2 – Check impellers: Use a wooden spoon to move the swivel impellers. If their edges are rounded or heavily worn, they will not push food effectively against the ring.
- Step 3 – Adjust usage: Avoid putting hard items like bones or fruit pits into a low-powered unit. Cut large items into smaller pieces.
- Step 4 – Ice cleaning: Grind a full tray of ice cubes with cold water to help knock off minor buildup. This will not restore severely worn parts.
- Step 5 – Replace if worn: If grinding remains poor and components appear worn, replace the disposal with a new Waste King model of appropriate horsepower.
