Possible Causes
Failed lower shaft seal, Crack in grinding chamber, Long-term corrosion from minor leaks, Overheating deforming seals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately turn OFF power at the breaker and unplug the disposal. Water in the electrical compartment is a shock hazard.
- Step 1 – Confirm leak source: Dry the area and run water into the sink without operating the disposal. If water drips from the bottom plate or electrical cover, the internal seals are compromised.
- Step 2 – Do not attempt internal repair: The grinding chamber and motor housing are factory-sealed. Internal seals are not user-serviceable.
- Step 3 – Remove and replace: Disconnect power and plumbing, remove the unit from the mounting assembly, and install a new Waste King disposal.
- Step 4 – Inspect sink flange and connections: Ensure the new unit is installed with proper sealing at the sink flange and all joints to prevent future internal leaks.
