Possible Causes
Dried or cracked plumber’s putty under sink flange, Loose mounting ring on EZ-Mount or 3-bolt assembly, Damaged sink flange gasket, Corroded sink flange
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker and unplug the disposal. Do not operate a leaking unit.
- Step 1 – Confirm leak location: Dry the area and run water into the sink without operating the disposal. Look for water seeping around the sink flange at the top of the unit.
- Step 2 – Tighten mounting assembly: Under the sink, check the mounting ring or 3-bolt assembly. Tighten evenly to pull the flange snug against the sink.
- Step 3 – Re-seal flange if needed: If tightening does not stop the leak, you must remove the disposal and sink flange. Loosen the mounting assembly, disconnect the discharge elbow, and lift out the flange from the sink.
- Step 4 – Apply new plumber’s putty: Clean old putty from the sink opening and flange. Roll a rope of plumber’s putty and apply under the flange lip. Press into the sink opening and reinstall the mounting hardware per Waste King instructions.
- Step 5 – Reinstall disposal and test: Reattach the disposal, reconnect the discharge and power, then run water to verify no leaks remain.
