Possible Causes
Worn switch contacts, Loose wire at switch terminal, Arcing due to high load, Shared neutral or ground fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the circuit breaker before removing the switch cover or touching wiring.
- Step 1 – Inspect switch: Remove the wall plate and gently pull out the switch. Look for burn marks or loose wires.
- Step 2 – Tighten connections: Tighten any loose terminal screws and ensure wires are firmly under the screws or in the backwire clamps.
- Step 3 – Replace switch: If the switch is buzzing or shows signs of damage, replace it with a new single-pole switch rated for the circuit.
- Step 4 – Test disposal: Restore power and test. If the disposal still does not run, further diagnosis of the unit itself is needed.
