Possible Causes
Weak or failing overload switch, Overheating due to high resistance in motor, Internal wiring fault, Frequent overloading causing permanent damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before repeated reset attempts.
- Step 1 – Check for overloading: Ensure you are not overloading the disposal with hard or fibrous waste. Use smaller batches and plenty of cold water.
- Step 2 – Inspect for jams: Use the jam-buster wrench to ensure the motor shaft turns freely. Remove any debris from the chamber.
- Step 3 – Observe reset behavior: If the reset button pops out after each short use, the overload is tripping prematurely.
- Step 4 – Replace unit: The overload/reset assembly is internal and not typically serviceable. Replace the disposal to restore reliable operation.
