Waste Maid
Excessive Motor Torque on Loose Mount / Play in Impeller Assembly
Garbage disposal causes a loud clunk when starting or stopping
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose mounting ring, Worn rubber mount, Excessive play in motor shaft or impeller, Thin sink flexing under torque
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the disposal before working under the sink.
- Check mounting ring: Ensure the Waste Maid mounting ring is fully locked and the three mounting lugs are engaged. Tighten mounting screws evenly.
- Inspect rubber mount: Look for cracks or compression in the rubber mounting gasket. Replace if deteriorated.
- Support the sink: For thin sinks, consider adding a support bracket or reinforcing the sink to reduce flex.
- Evaluate internal play: If the clunk persists and you can feel excessive movement when pushing up on the disposal, internal components may be worn. Replacement is recommended.
