Possible Causes
Deteriorated plumber's putty under Waste Maid sink flange, Loose mounting ring, Cracked sink flange, Corrosion around sink opening
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker and unplug the disposal if corded. Support the unit before loosening any mounting hardware.
- Confirm leak source: Run water into the sink without running the disposal and look under the sink. If water drips from the top of the unit or mounting assembly, the sink flange seal is leaking.
- Remove the disposal: Support the Waste Maid unit from below. Rotate the mounting ring counterclockwise to release the disposal from the sink flange.
- Reseal the flange: From above, remove the sink flange and scrape away old plumber's putty. Apply a fresh, even bead of plumber's putty under the flange lip and press it back into the sink opening.
- Reassemble mounting hardware: From below, reinstall the fiber gasket, backup ring, and mounting ring per Waste Maid instructions. Tighten evenly so the flange seats firmly.
- Reattach disposal and test: Lock the disposal back onto the mounting ring, reconnect plumbing and power, then run water to verify no leaks.
