Waste Maid
Loose Impeller Lug or Foreign Debris
Garbage disposal makes a rattling noise as if something is loose inside, even with no food

Possible Causes
Small metal pieces or screws in chamber, Worn impeller pivot pins, Broken plastic parts from splash guard, Loose mounting hardware contacting housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the switch and breaker before inspecting.
- Inspect chamber: Shine a flashlight into the disposal and look for small screws, bottle caps, or other debris. Remove with pliers.
- Check impeller lugs: Gently move each lug with a wooden spoon. Some movement is normal, but excessive wobble or a loose pin indicates wear.
- Inspect splash guard: Look for pieces of torn rubber that may have fallen into the chamber and remove them.
- Check external hardware: Under the sink, ensure that mounting screws and brackets are tight and not contacting the housing.
- Replace if internal parts are loose: If an impeller lug or pivot is loose or broken, replace the disposal.
