Waste Maid
Dull Grinding Components / Restricted Impeller Movement
Garbage disposal runs but does not grind food effectively; large pieces remain
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Worn grind ring teeth, Rounded impeller lugs, Heavy scale or rust buildup in Waste Maid grinding chamber, Low horsepower model overloaded
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the disposal before inspecting the chamber.
- Check impeller movement: Use a wooden spoon handle to move each impeller lug. They should pivot freely. Free any stuck lugs by gently working them back and forth.
- Clean the grind ring: Run a batch of ice cubes through the disposal with cold water to help knock off minor buildup. Follow with a flush of water.
- Adjust usage: Avoid putting large, hard items (bones, pits) or fibrous materials (celery, corn husks) into lower-horsepower Waste Maid models.
- Evaluate wear: If the grind ring teeth appear smooth and the unit struggles with normal food waste, the grinding components are worn. Replacement of the entire disposal is recommended.
