Waste Maid
Partial Drain Restriction / Improper Air Gap Plumbing
Garbage disposal runs but occasionally throws water out of the air gap on the sink
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Clogged disposal discharge or P-trap, Kinked dishwasher drain hose, Air gap outlet blocked, Incorrect hose routing from air gap to Waste Maid inlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the disposal and dishwasher before working on plumbing.
- Clean air gap: Remove the air gap cap and clean any debris from the top and internal passages.
- Inspect hoses: Ensure the hose from the dishwasher to the air gap and from the air gap to the Waste Maid inlet are not kinked or clogged.
- Clear drain line: Remove and clean the P-trap and horizontal drain arm from the disposal to the wall.
- Test operation: Run the dishwasher and disposal while observing the air gap. Occasional small spurts can be normal, but continuous flow indicates a restriction that must be cleared further down the line.
