Waste Maid
Backflow Leak from Dishwasher Connection
Garbage disposal runs but water leaks only when the dishwasher is draining
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose dishwasher hose clamp, Cracked dishwasher hose, Blocked disposal discharge causing back pressure, Air gap or high loop missing causing siphon issues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power to both appliances and do not run the dishwasher until the leak is fixed.
- Observe during drain: Run a short dishwasher cycle and watch under the sink during the drain phase to pinpoint the leak.
- Tighten or replace clamp: Snug the clamp at the Waste Maid dishwasher inlet. Replace with a new stainless clamp if corroded.
- Inspect hose: Replace the dishwasher drain hose if any cracks or pinholes are found.
- Check disposal discharge: Ensure the disposal discharge and P-trap are not partially blocked, which can force water back out the dishwasher connection.
- Install high loop or air gap: Ensure the dishwasher hose has a high loop under the counter or an air gap to prevent backflow.
