Possible Causes
Tripped internal reset (overload protector), Tripped circuit breaker, Faulty wall switch, Loose or burned wiring at Waste Maid power leads
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Always switch OFF the wall switch and turn OFF the circuit breaker before touching the disposal or wiring.
- Check the outlet/breaker: Verify that other devices on the same outlet or circuit work. Reset the kitchen circuit breaker in the electrical panel.
- Press the Waste Maid reset button: Locate the red overload reset button on the bottom or lower side of the Waste Maid unit. Press it firmly until it clicks. Restore power and test.
- Inspect the wall switch: With power OFF, remove the switch cover and check for loose wires. Tighten terminal screws if needed. If the switch feels loose or intermittent, replace it.
- Check the power cord or hardwire connection: If your Waste Maid is corded, unplug and inspect the cord for damage. For hardwired units, open the electrical junction box under the sink (power OFF) and verify wire nuts are tight and no wires are burned.
- Test again: Restore power at the breaker, turn on the wall switch, and test the disposal. If it still remains completely dead, the internal motor windings or control may be open and require replacement.
