Garbage disposal makes a thumping noise once per revolution during operation

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before inspecting the grinding chamber.

• Step 1 – Visual inspection: Shine a flashlight into the chamber and slowly rotate the turntable with a wooden stick, listening and feeling for a catch or bump.
• Step 2 – Check impellers: Inspect the swivel impellers for bending or contact with the shredder ring.
• Step 3 – Remove debris: Ensure no foreign object is causing the thump.
• Step 4 – Test briefly: Restore power and run the unit with water. If the thump persists and corresponds to each revolution, the turntable or impeller is likely bent.
• Step 5 – Replace disposal: Because the turntable and impeller assembly are not replaceable separately on most Whirlaway models, replace the entire disposal.
