Possible Causes
Mounting ring lugs not fully engaged, Compressed or deteriorated mounting gasket, Improper installation of Whirlaway EZ-mount or 3-bolt mount, Corroded mounting hardware
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Support the disposal from below and turn OFF power at the breaker before adjusting the mounting assembly.
- Step 1 – Support the unit: Place a box or stack of wood under the disposal to hold its weight.
- Step 2 – Tighten mounting ring: Rotate the mounting ring to fully engage all three mounting lugs. Use a screwdriver in the ring tabs for leverage if needed.
- Step 3 – Inspect gasket: If the unit still sags or leaks at the top, remove the disposal and inspect the mounting gasket or support ring. Replace if cracked or deformed.
- Step 4 – Reinstall correctly: Reassemble the mounting hardware in the correct order (support ring, gasket, snap ring, etc.) as specified for your Whirlaway model.
- Step 5 – Test stability: After reinstallation, gently push on the disposal to ensure it is firmly attached and does not move.
