Imbalance / Mounting Assembly Looseness
Garbage disposal vibrates excessively or shakes the sink during operation

Possible Causes
Loose Whirlaway mounting ring, Misaligned sink flange, Foreign object stuck on one side of turntable, Warped or bent impeller plate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before working under the sink.
- Step 1 – Check for foreign objects: With power off, inspect the grinding chamber and remove any large items that could cause imbalance.
- Step 2 – Verify impeller movement: Use a wooden stick to rotate the turntable and ensure both swivel impellers move freely and are not bent.
- Step 3 – Tighten mounting assembly: Under the sink, hold the disposal and check the mounting ring. Tighten the three mounting lugs evenly so the unit is firmly clamped to the sink flange.
- Step 4 – Check sink flange stability: Ensure the sink flange is tight against the sink and not rocking. If loose, remove and reseal with plumber’s putty.
- Step 5 – Test with water running: Restore power, run cold water, and operate the disposal. If severe vibration continues, the internal turntable may be warped and the disposal should be replaced.
