Garbage disposal will not accept food; items sit on top of splash guard and do not go down

Safety first: Turn OFF the disposal before adjusting the splash guard.

• Step 1 – Inspect splash guard opening: Check that the rubber baffle is not curled inward excessively or blocking the opening.
• Step 2 – Clean guard: Remove the splash guard (if removable) and clean it thoroughly with hot soapy water to remove grease that can cause sticking.
• Step 3 – Verify correct part: Ensure the splash guard is the correct size and style for your Whirlaway model. Replace with a compatible part if necessary.
• Step 4 – Reinstall properly: Seat the guard evenly in the sink flange so that the slits open easily when food and water are pushed through.
• Step 5 – Test operation: Run water and gently push small food scraps through the guard to confirm proper flow.
