Newly installed garbage disposal will not drain dishwasher water (dishwasher backs up)

Possible Causes
Factory knockout plug still installed in Whirlaway dishwasher inlet, Partially removed knockout blocking flow, Kinked dishwasher drain hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power to the disposal and disconnect the dishwasher from power before working on the drain connection.
- Step 1 – Disconnect dishwasher hose: Loosen the clamp and remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposal’s dishwasher inlet.
- Step 2 – Check for knockout plug: Shine a flashlight into the inlet. If you see a solid plastic or metal disk, the knockout plug has not been removed.
- Step 3 – Remove the plug: Insert a screwdriver into the inlet and tap gently with a hammer to knock the plug into the disposal chamber. Retrieve the loose plug from inside the chamber using tongs.
- Step 4 – Inspect hose: Ensure the dishwasher hose is not kinked or blocked. Trim and reroute if necessary.
- Step 5 – Reconnect and test: Reattach the hose with a secure clamp, restore power, and run a short dishwasher cycle to confirm proper draining.
