Water splashes back out of the sink opening when disposal is running

Safety first: Turn OFF the disposal before inspecting the sink opening.

• Step 1 – Inspect splash guard: Check the rubber splash guard/baffle at the sink opening. If it is missing, torn, or deformed, replace it with a compatible Whirlaway guard.
• Step 2 – Reduce water flow: Run a moderate stream of cold water instead of full blast while operating the disposal.
• Step 3 – Clear drain restrictions: If water backs up and splashes, follow drain cleaning steps: remove and clean the discharge elbow and P-trap.
• Step 4 – Grind smaller batches: Feed food waste gradually rather than all at once to reduce turbulence.
• Step 5 – Test after corrections: After replacing the splash guard and clearing the drain, run the disposal to confirm splashing is minimized.
